Claude is a family of large language models built by Anthropic and the AI assistant of the same name, available at claude.ai and in mobile, desktop, and coding apps. It answers questions, writes and debugs code, searches the web for current information, and runs autonomous agents.
Anthropic ships Claude as both an API model family and consumer-facing products. As of 2026 the current models are Claude Fable 5 (Anthropic’s most capable widely released model), Opus 4.8 for complex agentic coding, Sonnet 5 for balanced speed and intelligence, and Haiku 4.5 for the fastest responses. All of them take text and image input, return text, and work across languages. Fable 5, Opus 4.8, and Sonnet 5 have a 1M-token context window and a January 2026 knowledge cutoff; Haiku 4.5 uses a 200K-token window.
You reach Claude through claude.ai, the iOS and Android apps, macOS and Windows desktop apps, the Claude Code coding tool, and a Chrome extension. When a question needs fresh information, Claude searches the web instead of relying only on training data, then synthesizes and links the pages it read.
