click-to-conversion rate
Also called: click-through conversion rate, conversion rate per click
Click-to-conversion rate is the share of clicks that end in a conversion, calculated as conversions divided by clicks over the same period. If 1,000 clicks produce 50 conversions, the click-to-conversion rate is 5%. It measures how well a page turns arriving clicks into completed actions.
Click-to-conversion rate isolates what happens after the click. Click-through rate measures whether people click your result; this metric measures whether that click pays off. Google Ads reports the same idea as conversion rate, conversions ÷ trackable interactions, and notes the figure can exceed 100% when you count every conversion and one click drives several actions.
Organic clicks live in two tools
For paid traffic the click and the conversion sit in one platform. For SEO they do not. Organic clicks come from Google Search Console (clicks off the SERP), while conversions sit in GA4. In 2024 GA4 renamed conversions to “key events” and conversion rate to “key event rate,” and by default it counts per session or per user, not per click. To get a true organic click-to-conversion rate, pair GSC clicks with GA4 key events for the same pages and dates.
What moves the number is rarely the ranking itself. It is intent match between the query and the page, load speed (LCP and INP), a headline that matches the snippet people clicked, an obvious next step, and trust signals near the call to action. A page can sit at position 3, pull steady clicks, and still convert almost nobody if any of those break. Track it per landing page, not site-wide, so a few strong pages do not hide the ones that leak.
How it affects your traffic
Rankings and clicks are only half the funnel. A page can win position 3 and steady organic clicks yet leak nearly all of them if the landing experience, intent match, or speed is off, so more traffic just wastes more clicks. An SEO audit traces why clicks stall: slow LCP or INP, query-to-page intent mismatch, weak internal links to money pages, and broken or buried CTAs. Fixing those lifts conversions from traffic you already earn, which usually beats chasing more rankings.
