Entity SEO

Also called: entity optimization, entity-based SEO, brand entity optimization

Entity SEO is the practice of optimizing a site so search engines and AI systems recognize your brand, people, and topics as defined entities (things with attributes and relationships) rather than loose keyword strings. It uses structured data, sameAs links, and consistent naming to place you inside knowledge graphs.

From strings to things

Google’s Knowledge Graph, launched in May 2012, moved search from matching words toward understanding “things, not strings.” At launch it already held more than 500 million objects and 3.5 billion facts about the relationships between them. An entity is any distinct thing Google can identify and store facts about: a person, company, product, place, or concept. Entity SEO is how you help Google (and the LLM-based answer engines that lean on the same structured signals) resolve your brand to a specific node in that graph, with the right attributes and connections.

In practice that means three moves. First, be unambiguous: keep your name, @id, and Organization schema consistent so one canonical entity represents you. Second, connect outward with sameAs, pointing to authoritative profiles Google already trusts (Wikidata, LinkedIn, an official Wikipedia page) so it can verify who you are. Third, connect inward, linking related entities on your own site, for example tying a named CEO to the organization, so the relationships are explicit.

A minimal example:

{ "@type": "Organization", "name": "SEOBRO",
  "sameAs": ["https://www.wikidata.org/...", "https://www.linkedin.com/..."] }

Google’s own docs say Organization structured data helps it “disambiguate your organization in search results.” That disambiguation is the point. Once you are a recognized entity, you become eligible for a knowledge panel, you can be cited without an exact-match keyword in the query, and you surface in AI answers that reason over entities rather than individual pages.

How it affects your traffic

AI answer engines like Google's AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and Perplexity resolve a question to entities and then cite the sources they trust for each one, so a brand Google cannot pin down as a distinct entity tends to get skipped in those answers. Entity SEO is the groundwork that makes your business citable: consistent naming, Organization schema, and sameAs links tying you to knowledge sources Google already verifies. Our AI SEO service builds that entity footprint so you appear when a buyer asks an assistant, not only when they type a keyword into classic search.
