Clicks are the number of times a user followed a link from Google search results out to your site. In Google Search Console, repeat clicks on the same result in one session count once, while clicks on different URLs of yours count separately.
Search Console logs a click when a user leaves Google Search, Discover, or News and lands on your page. Bouncing straight back to the results does not remove the click.
What counts, and what doesn’t
Refining a search, expanding a “People also ask” box, or enlarging an image thumbnail are not clicks, because the user never leaves Google. Clicking two different URLs on your domain from the same results page counts as two clicks. Clicking the same result twice in one session counts as one.
Clicks appear across the Web, Image, Video, and News search types, each filterable in the Performance report. Discover has its own separate report.
Clicks pair with impressions to give click-through rate:

The AI wrinkle for 2026: following an external link inside AI Mode counts as a click, and AI Overview plus AI Mode activity is folded into your overall Search performance numbers. Google’s separate generative AI performance report, though, reports impressions only, not clicks. So your AI visibility and any AI-driven clicks are not yet shown on the same line, which makes attributing lost clicks to AI features a manual, cross-report exercise.
