GBP attributes

Also called: business profile attributes, google business profile attributes, GBP attributes, google my business attributes

Google Business Profile attributes are descriptive tags on your listing that tell customers specific details about your business, such as wheelchair accessible, offers Wi-Fi, or women-owned. They show on Google Search and Maps and split into owner-set factual tags and subjective tags crowdsourced from visitors.

Two kinds of attributes

Google splits attributes into two buckets. Factual attributes are the ones you toggle yourself in the profile editor: accessibility (wheelchair-accessible entrance, restrooms, parking), amenities (free Wi-Fi, outdoor seating), payment methods, and identity tags like women-owned, veteran-owned, Black-owned, or LGBTQ+ owned. You can opt in or out of identity attributes at any time and select several at once. After you save, Google reviews the edit, usually within about 10 minutes, though it can take up to 30 days.

The second bucket is subjective. Google’s help doc says some attributes are “populated based on inputs from customers who visit your business.” These get crowdsourced from Maps users rather than set by you, so you cannot edit them directly.

Under the hood, attributes carry typed values: BOOL (has_wheelchair_accessible_entrance), ENUM (free_wifi versus paid_wifi), and REPEATED_ENUM for multi-select lists like accepted cards. The available set is dynamic and varies by business category and country, so a restaurant sees different options than a law firm.

Attributes feed the filters and highlights people use to narrow local results. A search for “wheelchair accessible cafe near me” can surface profiles that carry the matching tag, which is why leaving the relevant ones blank quietly costs you visibility.

How it affects your traffic

Attributes are one of the cheapest local-visibility levers you have. Every accurate tag you complete makes your profile eligible for more attribute-based filters and the highlighted badges that make a listing more clickable in the map pack, so a searcher filtering for "wheelchair accessible" or "women-owned" can find you instead of a competitor who left theirs blank. Our Local SEO work audits your category's full attribute set, fills every accurate tag, and keeps them current as Google adds new options.
