Geo coordinates
Also called: geocoordinates, latitude longitude, geo schema
Geo coordinates are the latitude and longitude values that pin a location to an exact point on Earth (the WGS 84 system GPS uses). In local SEO they fill the GeoCoordinates schema field so search engines know a business's precise spot, not just its written address.
A geo coordinate pair has two numbers: latitude (north-to-south position) and longitude (east-to-west position). Together they mark one point to within about a metre. Values west of Greenwich or south of the equator carry a minus sign, for example 40.75, -73.98 for a spot in New York.
How they show up in SEO
In structured data, coordinates live in the GeoCoordinates type, used as the value of the geo property on a LocalBusiness or Place:
"geo": {
"@type": "GeoCoordinates",
"latitude": 40.75368,
"longitude": -73.98180
}
Google’s LocalBusiness documentation lists geo as recommended (not required) and asks for a precision of at least five decimal places. Five places lands you inside the building rather than somewhere on the block. The simplest way to read the correct pair is to search your business in Google Maps and copy the two numbers from the URL, or use the pin on your Google Business Profile.
Coordinates are a location signal that sits apart from your written address. When the two agree, there is no ambiguity about where you physically are. When your schema coordinates, your address, and your Maps pin disagree, you give search engines a reason to guess.
How it affects your traffic
Geo coordinates feed the map pack and "near me" queries that drive calls and walk-ins for location-based businesses. When your schema pin, your address, and your Google Business Profile location all match, search engines place you correctly and you compete for the local results your customers actually see. When they drift apart, you can surface for the wrong neighborhood or fall out of the pack. Aligning these location signals is part of our Local SEO work.
