llms-full.txt is a plain-text companion to llms.txt that holds the full body text of a site's key pages inline in one Markdown file, so an AI model can ingest the whole knowledge base in a single fetch instead of crawling many separate URLs.
The convention started with Jeremy Howard’s llms.txt proposal in 2024. That base file is a short, curated Markdown index: a title, a summary, and links to the pages you want models to read. llms-full.txt goes further and pastes the actual body text of those pages into one file, so a model gets everything without following any links. The original tooling called the expanded output llms-ctx-full.txt; the root-level /llms-full.txt name is a de-facto vendor convention.
Why sites publish it
The main use case is AI coding assistants and agents that need your full documentation in context. Instead of fetching twenty URLs, a tool grabs one file. Doc-heavy sites like Cloudflare and Anthropic publish one at the site root.
There are two catches. First, it duplicates your page content, so it drifts out of sync unless you regenerate it on every deploy. Second, it gets big fast: Cloudflare’s aggregated Cloudflare One file grew past 500,000 words, more than per-source ingestion caps on tools like NotebookLM, so a file meant to feed a model can be too large for the model to accept.
Be clear on status. As of 2026, Google says its Search systems ignore these files, and John Mueller has stated that no AI system currently uses llms.txt. No major LLM vendor has committed to reading it. Treat it as a cheap, low-risk bet for AI dev-tool ingestion, not a proven ranking lever.
How it affects your traffic
Publishing llms-full.txt will not move you in AI Overviews or ChatGPT answers by itself, because those systems do not read it today.
