Google’s local results rank on three factors: relevance, distance, and prominence. Relevance is “how well a Business Profile matches what someone is searching for,” and Google’s own advice is to “provide complete and detailed business info.” Local content is how you supply that detail across your site and profile, not just in a single address line.
In practice it takes several forms: a dedicated page per city or service area, guides tied to local events or landmarks, reviews and case studies that name the neighborhoods you serve, and Q&A posts answering searches like “how much does X cost in [city].” Each piece uses place-specific language in titles, headers, and body copy so a query like plumber near [town] has something concrete to match.
The line to avoid is thin, templated “city pages” that swap one town name for another.
