pros and cons structured data

Also called: pros and cons schema

Pros and cons structured data is schema markup using the positiveNotes and negativeNotes properties (each an ItemList) inside a Review object to summarize a product's upsides and downsides. Google shows it only for editorial product review pages, not merchant product pages or customer reviews.

Google introduced this markup in August 2022 as an extension of Product snippet structured data. The pros and cons attach to a Review object nested inside Product, using two properties: positiveNotes and negativeNotes. Each one is an ItemList of ListItem entries, and you need at least two statements total in any mix of positive and negative.

What actually qualifies

Only editorial product review pages are eligible. Merchant product detail pages and customer-submitted reviews do not get this treatment, even with valid markup. Google may also auto-detect pros and cons from the page text, but supplied structured data takes priority.

The positiveNotes property holds an ItemList of ListItem entries, each with a position and a name (the statement text). The negativeNotes property mirrors it for the downsides. Together they must total at least two statements.

The summary experience is available in Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, and Turkish, across every country where Search runs. As with all rich results, eligibility is not a guarantee. Google decides whether to render it, so validate with the Rich Results Test and treat the markup as a signal, not a switch.

How it affects your traffic

This term funnels to E-commerce SEO because the win is narrow but real. If your store publishes editorial buyer's guides or "best of" roundups, pros and cons markup can earn a visible summary block in Search that lifts click-through on high-intent comparison queries. Your standard product and category pages will not qualify, so the play is to build genuine editorial review content and mark it up correctly. We handle that content-plus-schema work as part of E-commerce SEO.
