Semantic search interprets the meaning and intent behind a query instead of matching literal keywords, returning results that fit what you meant rather than the exact words you typed. Google powers it with AI systems like BERT, RankBrain, and neural matching.

Traditional search matched the words in your query against the words on a page. Semantic search adds a layer: it tries to read what you actually want.
